October Workshop - Horton
This months workshop focuses on strength and the Horton modern dance technique. Lester Horton developed his technique focusing on Afro-Caribbean elements and isolations of the upper body. His technique has evolved to incorporate a whole body anatomical approach to dance while working on strength, flexibility, and spatial awareness. This workshop will be taught by Artistic Director, Alessia Gaetana Santoro. Miss Santoro's modern dance education began at New York State Summer School for the Arts modern dance division where she studied under Carolyn Adams (Paul Taylor Co., Julliard Faculty) Danny Grossman (Paul Taylor Co.) and Robert Battle (Julliard, Artistic Director Alvin Ailey) While pursuing her BFA in Dance at The College at Brockport she studied Horton extensively with Darwin Prioleau (Merit Scholar and Apprentice with Alvin Ailey Dance Centre). She continues to include elements of Horton to work on strength building in her modern classes at NYAB.
